“And down they went to see, roly-poly, pell-mell, tumble-bumble, till they came to the green grass; and there they stopped short.” –Poky Little Puppy

In my childhood world (and maybe even a bit of my adult world), no better words had ever been written. I loved books with a passion and it makes me sad to think that kids either don’t have access to books or they haven’t found ones they like yet. That’s why I’m delighted to partner with #CollectiveBias to share with you about the 1 Box=2 Books campaign with Kellogg’s. You buy one box of specially-marked items at Sam’s Club and you can redeem the enclosed code for one Scholastic book for you and Kellogg’s donates one Scholastic book to a local school. Love for reading

Shop-Kelloggs-PokyPuppy

Those silly words I quoted above came from my all-time favorite childhood book Poky Little Puppy. Now, that book is a favorite of my nieces and nephew, especially the little man. I’ve been told having that book read to him is one of his daily rituals. I remember how both my parents would read to me and through that, I developed a love for reading. Reading is how I found a healthy escape, it’s how I learned new facts, and it’s even how I came to open my first profitable business. Yes, I based my baby-sitting business on the Baby-Sitters Club series.

My mom reading to her three grandkids. My twin nieces and nephew love being read to! I don't get to see them nearly enough but I love picking out books to send them. I'm using my codes from Kellogg's to get books for them.

Over the years, my tastes changed to be more in tuned with mysteries such as the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys novels. I never got too much into fantasy or sci-fi (still don’t care). I think part of why I was such an avid reader as a kid is because I had access to great books and I was able to figure out what I liked best (and what I didn’t like).

I want to invite you to participate in this program. It’s really very easy. You don’t even have to be a Sam’s Club member (although I encourage it. We’ve saved lots of money over the years).

Here’s why you don’t have to be a Sam’s Club member to participate:

“Bring this invitation to shop printed out to the Member Services Desk at your local Sam’s Club for a pass to shop for the day. A 10% service fee applies on all non-member purchases when shopping with this One-Day Pass (not applicable in CA, SC or Elmsford, NY). The 10% service fee does not apply if the non-member decides to join the Club at the time of purchase.”

In fact, the perfect time to go is Aug. 22/23 because Kellogg’s will be hosting demos at Sam’s Club at these select stores.

Look for the Stock Up for Back to School Display, which should be at the front of your Sam's Club store. When I shopped, the demo for this campaign was right next to the Back to School display.

Be sure to look for this specific signage or packaging to know if the product qualifies. You will have to open the package when you get home to find the code inside.

The code is nothing "special." It will look something like this and just tells Kellogg's that it's a qualified package.

We bought Rice Krispie treats, Cheezits, and Fruit Snacks but you have more than a dozen options to choose from. Don’t want to eat that many delicious treats on your own (why not)? You can also donate some of the packaged items (like the Fruit Snacks) to your local Snak Pak program where they donate packs of food for kids who don’t have access to food when they aren’t at school.

Redeeming your Scholastic books from Kellogg’s

Once you purchase your items and find the code stamped on the inside, the process to redeem the code for books is fairly simple. First, you go to the site www.freebookoffer.com/sams (if you bought the stuff at Sam’s). You will have the option to join and get free offers from Kellogg’s or just register enough to get your books.

I could try to explain it in words, but it’s a lot better if I just show you! Check out these photos and the captions.

You are then given a screen that lets you choose between viewing the books or entering the code.

I chose to enter my code because I knew I could look at the books once I did that. You enter the code (it enters the dashes for your) and use the drop-down menu to select your retailer.

After each code, you will see this screen. You can either go to the redeem page or enter another code. I’ve already redeemed two of my codes and will do the third at a later time.
When you go to redeem your book, you get to choose between donating your book or receiving your book. This is the "your" book. The second book is automatically sent to a local school. If you want to donate both books, this lets you choose which book you want to donate. I chose to have books sent to me so I can give them to my nieces and nephew.

You can choose books based on the type of reader. They have Spanish language books and also ebooks available this year.

I’ve been told it takes about eight weeks for the books to arrive so it’s a great idea for Christmas gifts (don’t delay, though!).

I’m curious, what books would you choose? Leave your ideas in the comments.

  1. I still have a true love for children’s books, and Poky Little Puppy was one of my childhood favorites. It’s great that you are sharing this free book with your nieces and nephew. #client
