When we lost Missy this summer to FIV/Lymphoma, we didn’t plan on getting a new cat right away. And in some ways, we didn’t. We still enjoyed looking at other cats and playing with them when we went to pet stores that partnered with local shelters, but we were pretty set on not getting a new cat right away.
Then we met Munchkin. Or that’s what she was called back then. She had been found in a nearby town and had seven kittens. SEVEN! This year-old cat and her litter were named using the Wizard of Oz theme, hence the name Munchkin. As is common in these circumstances, her kittens were adopted out before she was but she had such a fun personality.
We got hooked and on a whim, filled out the paperwork that afternoon. We suddenly were a two-cat household again.
In the months since adopting her, we changed her name to Sally (she never answered to Munchkin anyway) and have enjoyed getting to know her. She’s bossy, loves running water (especially in the bathtub), and she loves to play in my wheelchair when I’m not using it. She had been fostered around dogs so she took to our dogs right away, sometimes much to their chagrin! It’s a good thing we changed her name, considering she is now up to 12 pounds. Definitely nothing “munchkin” about her physique or personality.
Welcome to the Smith Family, Sally!
