This isn’t necessarily about surgery but it pertains to the life I’ve dealt with the last year. As most of you know, I have Graves Disease, which is an autoimmune disorder that attacks the thyroid. I had radical treatment Feb. 4, 2005, which was to take radioactive iodine to kill off the thyroid. The Graves causes overactive thyroid but once you kill off the thyroid it causes severe underactive thyroid so you have to take supplements of the hormone for the rest of your life. Anyways, it takes a while to get the right dosage because it takes a while for the thyroid to die and then to build back up the thyroid hormone.
Today I found out that for the first time I had “normal” function with my thyroid. Well, not normal function, but normal levels of the hormone is in my system. That means I am euthyroid. I am hoping that this will help my metabolism. Even if it doesn’t, it will be nice to not have the crappy effects of having underactive thyroid.
On a less happy note, I am sick and have been home all day today and will remain home tommorrow. I have a kidney infection, which is very much not amusing. My temp is down but still high so I’m trying to get in my fluids. I can hardly eat but I have managed to get in half a cup of tomato soup and some meatballs today.

When was your surgery? I will admit I didn’t know what Graves Disease was. I don’t know a lot about stuff, and I’ll be blunt and ask questions if I am confused, LOL. But you already explained that one, so I’m good 🙂 I’m sorry you aren’t well. Do you have a lot of trouble with your kidneys?
Most don’t know what Graves Disease is. It SOUNDS worse than it is because of the name but it was named after the guy who discovered it. Having trouble with my urinary tract is part of having Spina Bifida but I bet I also am not getting enough fluids. I usually get in about 50 or so and I need to be having way more than 60. I’m glad you found my blog again 🙂
